My Florida Meadow Co.

About Andrea

Hello and Welcome! I'm Andrea, the founder and designer behind My Florida Meadow Co. I started My Florida Meadow as a blog by the same name in 2012,  to document the transformation of our backyard from lawn to meadow. What I’ve learned, and what I love about returning wild the landscape is that when we make space for and nourish the wild, the wild nourishes us.  It’s reciprocal. Dr. Gabor Mate says “the essence of trauma is the loss of contact with the self”. Many people including myself, feel that witnessing the loss of wild to rampant development is traumatic. It’s the same loss of contact or disconnection from the self, of land from the wild - the land from its self.

Returning the wild where we can, we are renewed by hope - we and the land are reconnecting with authenticity, our instinctual self and embodying the rhythms of nature. Native meadow and wildflower habitat is just one way to create space for the wild. It goes without saying that all layers, from ground to canopy are essential. For me personally, wildflowers, the meaning and healing they hold have special relevance and so that’s where my focus for service has lead me.

Professionally I have worked in the landscaping field for over a decade in various capacities. I have a diploma in landscape design from The Anna Gresham Landscape Design School. I began my career as a landscape designer, creating traditional residential designs for clients in the greater Orlando area. Formerly, I worked with Outdoor Design Works Inc. in Winter Park, FL. as a CAD technician and project installation manager. More recently I had the opportunity to work at Green Isle Gardens in Groveland, FL. as a greenhouse production assistant and retail sales associate. I've been an avid gardener in Florida for more than 30 years, the last decade focused on native plants. I live in Ocoee, FL with my husband and sons.

About Our Work

We work on sites that are 2 acres or more with a suggested planting size of 2,000 to 4,000 square feet. We provide some light stewardship assistance after installation. Meadowscaping provides much needed habitat for wildlife, requires no chemical inputs and brings the beauty and feel of authentic Florida to your landscape. Whether you will be doing the installation yourself or hiring a contractor, were here to assist you with a thoughtful design for your Florida native wildflower habitat.
