Fauna: Attractive to a wide variety of pollinators. When blooming the flowers are covered in butterflies, bees, and wasps.
Field Notes: A tall, robust wildflower with thick sturdy reddish stems, lime green leaves and purple flowers. The long, fleshy leaves have a sweet woodsy fragrance that is most noticeable as they are beginning to wilt and dry out. At one time, these vanilla scented leaves were used in the pipe tobacco industry to layer in between tobacco for added fragrance.
