My Florida Meadow Co.

Hypericum hypericoides - St. Andrew’s Cross

Hypericum hypericoides - St. Andrew’s Cross

Life Cycle: Perennial shrub

Soil Moisture: Dry, medium, moist

Sun Exposure: Full Sun, partial shade

Height: 2-3’

Bloom Color: Yellow

Bloom Time: Summer

Fauna: Attractive to pollinators. In our yard, it’s a favorite of the American bumblebee (Bombus pensylvanicus) and Gulf fritillary butterflies (Dione vanillas).

Planting Considerations: St. Andrew’s Cross is widely adaptable to a range of soil types. This is an under appreciated plant! It makes a beautiful, evergreen low growing shrub with yellow flowers that are always being visited by pollinators. It can be used as a foundation shrub, along the liminal edges of Oak canopy or in mass, for example as a border to a wildflower garden.
