Planting Considerations: Black seeded needle grass is a favorite for the base layer of a mixed native wildflower habitat. This cool season, perennial bunch grass has fine textured leaves with tall graceful blooms in March and April. It reseeds readily in open areas around other wildflowers if not heavily mulched. This is a low growing grass with the clumps staying around 12” - 18” in height and blooms spikes a few feet tall. This grass has deep roots and can be used on a slope or where erosion control is needed. Reseeding.
