Life Cycle: Perennial sub-shrub
Soil: upland, dry sandy soil
Sun Exposure: Full sun
Height: 8-12”
Bloom Color: yellow
Bloom Time: Spring
Fauna: Attractive to a variety of pollinators
Planting Considerations: Pinebarren frostweed spreads slowly over time by suckering. In our own landscape, this has been minimal and welcome. It’s a fire adapted species and will spread by seed in areas managed by fire. Pinebarren frostweed is naturally occurring in much of Florida, found in sandhills, dry flatwoods and dunes. It stays rather low and makes a nice addition to the front of a wildflower planting, as a mass planting or along a pathway.
Field Notes: Blooms last one day. Yellow flowers with bright orange anthers.
