Planting Considerations: Silkgrass, the common name for the genus Pityopsis is referring to the grass like appearance and the silky look of the leaves. Endemic to peninsular Florida, naturally occurring in longleaf pine sandhill and scrub communities. Unlike other species of silk gras P. aequilifolia is not rhizomatous.*
